Subscribe to Meet My Pet RatsActually, I don’t have much of an update, which is why I haven’t posted much lately. The ratties are doing great. We haven’t had a lot of excitement recently.

I can’t believe my camera caught this shot. I was trying to take a picture of Pixel’s belly while I had him flipped on his back on my leg. As I was taking the picture he slipped out of my hand and rolled off my leg on to the blanket. 
Crazy rattie.
These are just three cute shots I got.
In that last one Pica is mid-grooming. I’m so glad I got a couple of good shots of him. He’s always on the go and hard to take pictures of.

Pixel is so photogenic 
Pica loves to show Pixel how much stronger he is by pushing him on to his back about a dozen times an hour. Pixel doesn’t seem to mind much. I think this picture would make a good lolrats with “pwned” written on it really big…
Today is the Chinese New Year… the year of the Rat! To celebrate, the boys got a dish of oatmeal with raspberries smushed into it. They went nuts over it! Here’s a video of them eating:

I decided to switch litters again… I know, I really need to make up my mind! I’m trying Papurr now. It looks like a normal clay cat litter, but it’s made out of paper instead of clay. It doesn’t seem dusty at all and it has a nice fresh scent to it - like fresh clay cat litter. It seems softer to walk on than the YN too.
But the biggest reason I switched is because of the foreign objects I was finding in YN. Little bits of colored plastic mostly. I was worried my ratties might accidently eat it or get cut on it. It just didn’t seem safe. Here’s a link to another article that goes into the Yesterday’s News hazards in more detail. Luckily I never found metal, like the article talks about, but I didn’t want to take the chance that I might.
So we’ll see how they do on it. Hopefully it will absorb odor as well as the YN used to. It’ll be awesome if this stuff works because it’s cheaper than YN too - about $10/30lbs. at Petsmart.
They really are. You can teach them tricks, they’ll come when you call their name, and they like belly rubs.

Happy New Year Everyone!
Starting Feb. 7th, it will be the Year of the Rat. The boys had a fun time celebrating the new year with us last night. While we had normal, big-people, pina colada/fruit daiquiris the ratties just had some of the fruit juice that we were using to make our drinks. We’re totally addicted to Naked fruit smoothies right now, so we got the pina colada and the blue machine flavors to use in our drinks. Here are the boys drinking some of each flavor mixed together.
I just wanted to wish everyone a happy Christmas for my rat boys. They didn’t get any special presents (because they’re already spoiled). But they did get a big dish of baby food and a few Flat Earth Fruit Chips - both of which they adore. And their grandmom saved up a huge trash bag full of card board tubes. Maybe tomorrow I’ll pick up a new hammock for them. Right now they’re scampering around in the kitchen… probably getting into trouble.

Pixel’s doing a lot better so far. He’s still a little tilty and off balance, but not as bad as before. He’s acting much perkier and more playful than when I first noticed the tilt. He’s basically acting like his old self again, just not as balanced. I’ve read that when rats get a head tilt it may never go away. So far it’s still hanging with him, so that may be the case. I’m glad I bought the flatter instead of taller cage for them, so I don’t have to worry about long falls. The time I notice the balance issue the most is when I pick him up. He sort of rolls over in my hand onto his back, making it hard to hold him. It’s really strange. But I’ll keep everyone updated if he gets better or worse.
